Support & Remediation
Not all diversion arises from criminal intent. In many cases, it’s linked to substance use disorders or personal crises.
Supporting Staff
- Offer confidential access to:
- Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs)
- Addiction recovery services
- Veterinary Wellness Programs (e.g., AVMA resources)
- Encourage early self-reporting and reduce fear of retaliation.
Whistleblower Protections
- Create anonymous channels for reporting concerns (e.g., drop box, email hotline).
- Assure staff they will be protected from retaliation when reporting in good faith.
Preventing Recurrence
- Review policies after any incident and update protocols.
- Debrief staff on lessons learned (without identifying involved parties).
- Re-audit inventory and access controls for weaknesses.
📌 A strong prevention and response system shows the DEA and your staff that you take diversion seriously — and value both accountability and care.
